Jockstrap Day

In honor of National Jockstrap Day, some fun facts about our beloved and preferred undergarment.

1.      The invention of the jockstrap dates back to 1874. Jockstraps were originally invented and developed by C. F. Bennett, a Chicago Sports company owner, to aid the comfort of the bicycle jockeys working in Boston. Those old cobblestone streets and be tough on a guy’s junk.

2.      The name “Jockstrap” is actually a contraction of “Jockey Strap”. Jockey strap itself is a shortened version of the patented “Bike Jockey Strap”.

3.      The most common use for the jockstrap is sports. However, jockstraps continue to gain popularity as an option to traditional underwear.

4.      The most popular color remains WHITE!

5.      Shockingly, an early version of Jockstraps (the Heidelberg Electric Belt) were used for medicinal purposes to cure kidney stones, insomnia, and erectile dysfunction using a low-voltage electrical pulse. Caution, please do not try this at home. I felt I needed to state that because I know some of you will.

Rumor has it, the owners of Helmet Grease work all day in nothing but their jockstraps. But you didn’t hear that from me.
